May closed at $738.31 after a $668.80 low. June closed nearly flat at $736.40. July, still in progress until Friday, July 31, has ranged from a $675.95 low to a $731.92 high. A July close below May’s $668.80 low would risk a bearish engulfing pattern on the monthly chart.

This is a genuine, specific, forward-looking risk worth naming plainly rather than glossing over: if July closes below May’s low of $668.80, that would engulf both May and June’s ranges on the monthly chart, a pattern that would raise real questions about a structural shift toward a bearish reversal on the monthly timeframe. This is not a prediction and not a certainty. June’s own candle was not a textbook doji, so this isn’t a clean, classic reversal setup either. But given July’s low has already printed at $675.95, roughly $7 above that May low, this is a level worth having on watch through Friday’s close, not something to discover after the fact.

Earnings: This is the busiest stretch of tech earnings season, directly relevant to QQQ given the weighting of these names in the index. Microsoft reports Wednesday after the close, focused on Azure cloud growth and AI infrastructure spending. Amazon, Apple, and Meta all report Thursday after the close, with AWS momentum, Tim Cook’s final earnings call as Apple’s CEO, and AI capital expenditure scrutiny at Meta as the key threads to watch. DXY: The trade-weighted dollar closed Wednesday at 101.14 and is testing 101.44 Thursday morning, not far from the 101.8 year-to-date high. Rising yields and a rising dollar together are compounding as headwinds rather than offsetting each other.

Energy: Crude oil surged again, closing Wednesday at $86.48 and opening Thursday at $87.72, testing a $91.61 high, currently near $91. MSTR gapped down Wednesday, opening $93.68 and closing $93.87, and has not filled that gap. MARA closed Wednesday at $12.02, sitting just above its year-to-date midpoint of $11.55 (from a $6.66 low to a $16.43 high), a level that roughly aligns with a January 16 session that marked the prior year-to-date high at the time. Holding above $11.55 keeps the case for a further bounce alive; losing it opens a path toward two unfilled gaps below, from April 7 to 8 ($8.96 to $9.51) and April 29 to 30 ($10.72 to $11.10).

Geopolitical: Hamas has announced the dissolution of the body that has governed Gaza for nearly two decades, transferring civilian authority to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a technocratic body backed by the US and UN. The announcement did not address disarmament, which Israel and the US have both called a precondition for the next phase of the ceasefire process. Israel has publicly dismissed the move as symbolic. Treat this as a step in an ongoing process rather than a resolution.

Economic calendar: Minutes from the June FOMC meeting are due this week. The next Federal Reserve rate decision is scheduled for July 29, with the federal funds rate having held at 3.50% to 3.75% since April under Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, and no Summary of Economic Projections attached to that meeting. June CPI is scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 8:30 AM, followed by June PPI on July 15.

US 10-yr yield: The 10-year yield closed Tuesday at 4.488% and opened Wednesday at 4.496%, testing a high of 4.525% before easing back to 4.496%. The 4.50% area is in play as a real test, and continued strength here leans toward a headwind for equities.

DXY: The trade-weighted dollar rallied Tuesday, opening 100.842 and closing 101.123 after testing a high of 101.148, easing back to 100.994 since. Below roughly 101.15 to 101.20, the more likely path is sideways compression or lower, a mild tailwind for equities. A retest and hold of the 101.8 year-to-date high would flip that read toward a headwind.

Energy: Crude oil broke out of its recent compression Tuesday, opening $68.58 and closing $72.20, before continuing to $72.93 Wednesday morning and currently near $71.95. XOM confirmed the move, opening Tuesday at $138.56 and closing at $141.69, now trading near $142.80 in premarket.

BTC: Bitcoin made a lower high Tuesday at $64,770 and has continued lower, currently near $62,950, holding below the $65,180 and $67,360 levels needed to shift away from the dead-cat-bounce read. MSTR closed Tuesday at $97.36 and is trading near $95.40 in premarket, tracking Bitcoin’s weakness. MARA closed Tuesday at $12.05, continuing its decline alongside Bitcoin

Given the size of the overnight gap (roughly $6.82, or 1.3% from Monday’s close), the first 60 to 90 minutes should be read for which of two bullish paths is forming: a fast, sharp gap-fill attempt that either extends or fails quickly, versus a slower, methodical grind that builds support before pushing higher. It’s also worth watching whether the gap simply continues without any fill attempt at all.

🟢#1 “Bull Above Pivot” (Gap Reclaim and Extend)

1. Opens at or reclaims the $716.00 gap pivot quickly.

2. Clears $718.45 (Monday’s low) and pushes through the $720.25 to $721.36 retracement zone with limited hesitation.

3. Fully fills the gap back to $722.82 and continues through Monday’s $726.08 high.

4. Targets: $728.50 (midpoint), then $730.75 (first full upside extension) if momentum carries through the session.

🔵#2 “Bull From Below” (Slow Grind Higher)

1. Opens below the gap pivot and does not immediately rally.

2. Spends the first 60 to 90 minutes building consolidation and support rather than pushing higher.

3. Methodically reclaims the Fibonacci retracement ladder of Monday’s range ($720.25, $721.36, $722.27) through the back half of the session rather than in one sharp move.

Geopolitical: Iran’s military headquarters has warned that any US interference in the Strait of Hormuz will be met with a “decisive and swift response,” as funeral proceedings for Ali Khamenei concluded this week. Separately, Qatar has reported “positive progress” following indirect US-Iran technical talks in Doha related to the June 17 memorandum of understanding. The situation remains fluid, with constructive diplomatic signals alongside pointed military rhetoric, and should be treated as unresolved rather than settled.

US 10-yr yield: The 10-year yield closed Monday at 4.44% and has bounced slightly Tuesday, opening 4.49%, ranging 4.43% to 4.47%, currently 4.46%. A clear move above 4.48% to 4.50% is the first watch point; above 4.60% would represent a more meaningful headwind for equities. As always, the speed of any move in yields matters more than the level itself; a fast repricing is a bigger risk to equities than a slow drift to the same destination.

DXY: The trade-weighted dollar printed a near-doji Monday (opened 100.857, closed 100.855) after testing a high of 101.145, and is attempting to rally Tuesday from an open of 100.842 toward 100.98. No clear signal yet in either direction.

Energy: Crude oil continues to firm, closing Monday at $68.60 and testing $69.74 Tuesday morning before settling near $69.20. XOM, by contrast, continues to compress: Monday’s range was just $1.36 against an expected $2.10, the eighth straight session inside the same band since the June 23 to 24 gap down that has never filled. Premarket bid/ask ($137.20 / $138.40) is unusually wide, suggesting thin liquidity rather than a clear directional signal. Given the ongoing geopolitical backdrop, a sudden energy-sector move on fresh Middle East headlines would not be a surprising development, although it is not the base case.

BTC: Bitcoin remains choppy, failing to clear the $65,180 level (the midpoint from the 2019 low to the all-time high) or the May 15 lower high near $67,360; the dead cat-bounce read holds until one of those levels is reclaimed and held. MSTR is showing some short-term buy signals off its year-to-date low, but daily candles on July 1, July 2, and July 6 all show topping wicks, suggesting active profit-taking into every bounce. A real trend change would need to clear $110, then $120, then the $130 to $140 zone (June 15’s $136.25 high) to break the pattern of lower highs. Netflix is trading like the market has grown colder toward the name, not like the business has broken, and this distinction matters. The 2026 yearly candle tested a multi-year support cluster near $70.18 which is the 2021 all-time high, as well as the midpoint of the powerful 2024 expansion candle. Price held above $70 on its first test and has already rallied to $77.65. That $70 test didn’t happen in isolation, but rather as the continuation of a rejection that began in 2025, in which the stock spiked to a fresh all-time high and gave almost all of it back. Meanwhile, Netflix continues guiding to revenue growth, margin expansion, and roughly $12.5 billion of free cash flow in 2026, all while quietly building what may be its most underappreciated growth lever: anime.
